And the saga continues

After thinking I was only going to lose roughly a 1000 photos it turns out that I could no longer access my external drive. I’ve tried several things with no luck until I tried some recovery software. At the moment I’m running the trial version. It has been able to locate the files and I’m currently trying to recover 1Gig of data ( the maximum amount for the trial version). It’s a slow process due to the software and the bad external drive. If it works I will purchase the full blown version. Slow as in roughly 10-15 minutes per photo and I have over 6000 on that drive. If it works I will write a tutorial/pray guide. If it doesn’t I will make a video of me shooting the bad drive, may do that anyway.

  1. If cost isn’t an issue, I would consider taking it in to a data recovery specialists. I saved an entire HD of files for a little over $200. Well worth the cost. Good luck!

  2. My heart goes out to you. This is a good reminder ( and I am the first one to forget it, so I am not casting stones) that it is not IF, but WHEN a hard drive will fail you. I had my hard drive fail on my MBP a couple of months ago. Luckily I just happened to be out of town and close to an Apple genius who worked long and hard to recover about 400 gigs worth of images………..I will back up everything later today, no, I will back up right now………peace j

  3. A real nightmare. I’ve had many hard drives crash over the years so I feel your pain. When you get on the other side of this seriously consider a reliable backup system. I’ve tried several and the best I’ve found is Drobo. Check it out.

  4. How horrible! I’m so sorry you’re having to go through this. I can only imagine what a nightmare that is. Best of luck to you – I hope things get resolved very soon.

  5. So clearly you have an online support group as we all feel your pain and simultaneously wonder if our own systems are secure. Positive thoughts for success are with you!
